What you can do in this app
How to play
Move time forward: use ▶ and the speed (1 hour to 1 week per second) at the bottom. Every night at 9 pm someone takes a bath and the wall gets wet.
Try tools: pick a tool on the left and trace over the wall. They are grouped into “Dry it / remove food”, “Kill / hold back mold” and “Make it worse (experiment)”.
Zoom in: wheel, the + button or two fingers. Zoomed in, it switches to a microscope view where you can see hyphae and spore stalks. Once zoomed, use “Look / move” and drag to move around.
Check how things are going: the top right says “getting worse / getting better / worries remain” with reasons, and the effect of the last thing you did.
Change the view: “Show hidden things” shows fallen spores, hyphal tips and anti-mold agent; “Show dampness” shows where it is damp enough for mold to grow.
How it works, and cautions
This is a simplified simulation for learning. It cannot be used for health or medical decisions, or to inspect a building. Follow the product instructions for any cleaning chemical, and never mix chlorine products with anything acidic.
The growth conditions (the lowest dampness and the temperatures at which mold grows), germination, hyphal growth, spore production and how the chemicals work are based on research and product labels. Speeds and amounts (how fast hyphae grow, how many spores, how deep chemicals reach) are estimates based on lab values, and in a real bathroom they can differ several times over.
Each hypha in the picture actually stands for a bundle of dozens of hyphae. The shapes of stalks and spores in the microscope view are simplified versions of the typical shape of each kind. The mist, foam and splashes when you use a tool are drawn to make it clear what happened (for show).
Labels: confirmed confirmed by research or product labels estimate rough value, wide range for show drawn to make it easier to see
